Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you cover indirect costs?

No. The award is for direct costs only.

  • Can I have more than one principal investigator (PI) listed on the grant application?

No. There is a single PI associated with each seed grant.

  • Do I need to have IRB (protection of human subjects) approval prior to submitting the grant application?

If applicable to your research, an approved IRB protocol will be required at the time of funding the seed grant. The approval may be pending at the time of submission.

  • Do I need to have IACUC (vertebrate animals) approval prior to submitting the grant application?

If applicable to your research, an approved IACUC protocol will be required at the time of funding the seed grant. The approval may be pending at the time of submission.

  • I am an assistant professor with an independent research program and my own laboratory. Do I need to submit a mentor’s letter of support?

No. If you are independent, you do not need a mentor’s letter of support.

  • I am no longer a postdoctoral trainee, but I still work in another PI’s laboratory (e.g. as a research assistant professor or as an adjunct assistant professor). Do I need to submit a mentor’s letter of support?

Yes. Please submit a mentor’s letter of support from your PI.

  • What is the minimum percent effort for the PI?

The percent effort is decided by the PI and their institution; it is typically 16.7% – 25% or 2-3 calendar months but may be higher as the project requires.

  • Do you allow for subcontractors?

    Yes.

  • Do you need to submit CV’s or bio-sketches for the entire team or just the PI?

    Just the PI.

  • Who is the award made out to?

The award is made out to the institution where the PI works.

  • Do you accept applications from outside the US?

No, currently we are only accepting applications from inside the US.

  • My research is different from what you have funded in the past. Should I still apply?

The seed grant program is focused on advancing research for all pancreas tumors and related pancreatic diseases.

  • Do you fund projects on pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors?

We welcome applications for projects on PNETs.
